  • If your have fairly tanned or dark skin though, this can be another reason why blonde shades don’t work. This can occur with any hair color because of the disparity between light and dark. • Something that a lot of people don’t realise, at least until they experience it, is that whilst hair dye is technically used to both lighten and dye hair, it only lightens natural pigment properly. This means that when someone has applied a darker hair dye to their hair and there is a lot of artificial pigment present, the lightening barely occurs because all this artificial pigment barely budges. Any lightening that does occur tends to be more a result of any remaining natural pigment in the hair being lifted. It’s for this reason that you can’t use dye to lighten over hair that has been dyed with dark dyes, dyed many times with lighter shades to where there is pigment build-up, or in cases where products like henna have been used (the dye will lift natural pigment, but all that henna pigment is mostly unaffected and the hair continues to look dark). - Source: Internet

You can rinse it out as soon as it is the color you want. The idea here is that you’re using the ash tone to counteract the excess warmth remaining in your hair. - Source: Internet
  • #13: Subtle Darker Warm Blonde A darker warm blonde tone is buttery with subtle dimensions, like a golden yellow blonde, to give you a sun-kissed color. You will need to use a purple shampoo every other wash to help eliminate future unwanted brassy tones in your darker blonde hair. • Another common mistake is to underestimate the amount of hair dye you’ll need. There’s nothing more annoying than running out halfway through the job, especially if you have long, thick hair that absorbs a lot of pigment. You really don’t want to end up with blotchy colour or a half-hearted version of what you were hoping to achieve, so why not buy an extra pack just in case. If you don’t use it, it’ll always come in handy when you’re re-touching your roots. - Source: Internet

If the golden tones in your features seem to work well with your skin, this is a good indication that it is more on the warm side, whilst the opposite is true of a cool toned complexion. - Source: Internet
  • Once the bleach has been applied, allow it to lift until your hair is a bright orange color. Bright orange is the base tone for light brown hair, and it is at this stage of lightening that your hair can be toned to any shade of light brown. Rinse out the bleach thoroughly and you’ll be ready to tone it. - Source: Internet
  • My bare-bones research from bleaching my hair prepared me for a time-consuming salon trip. (That appointment lasted four hours.) Adding pigment back in is also an hours-long process. I settled in for my session at Spoke & Weal at noon and left just before three. Typically, blonde-to-brunette transitions can last between two and five hours at the salon, including several rounds of color and gloss. - Source: Internet
  • Dark blonde hair color is great for just about any complexion. It’s among the few blonde hair colors that don’t care about eye colors or complexions. This color trend is drop-dead gorgeous and popular among many female celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Ciara, Jennifer Anniston, Jennifer Lopez, and others. - Source: Internet
  • For light brown, dye your hair with medium copper blonde or use an orange-gold protein filler and then dye with light natural/neutral brown over that colour. If you want it to be ashier, mix a little light ash brown into the natural. Vice versa if you want it to be warmer, mix a little of your desired warm shade, eg golden brown, into the natural. Don’t use either by themselves when darkening your hair this much though, you need the natural shade primarily to darken it properly. - Source: Internet
  • Hey, my natural hair is an ashy blonde color and I want to go a fee shades darker for the winter season. This is my first time. After I dye it will it be necessary for me to retouch my roots? Or is there a way I could leave them natural? - Source: Internet
  • Did you find that it was the colour that didn’t work against your skin, or just the lightness of blonde hair? What tends to happen with cool toned skin is that cool toned colours will work best and warm shades like caramel or gold can clash badly. If the colour just didn’t seem to work with your skin, natural, pearl, or ash blonde should match your skin better. Even a beige shade can be better in this situation because whilst it contains gold tone, this is more of a secondary reflect for a softer effect. - Source: Internet
  • Only thing I can think to recommend without knowing more about what specific dye has been used in your hair before that faded so much, is that some brands of salon dye have what’s called a ‘double natural’ shade, eg, for light brown that’s a 5NN instead of the typical 5N you would see. These are used to dye hair that is very resistant or with a significant amount of greying and that might work to get a more lasting result for you. Apart from that, there’s either something off with the dye or method that’s been used on your hair previously, or with your hair’s porosity itself, probably more likely the dye. - Source: Internet
  • You should also use a double process if you’ve dyed your hair dark in the past. Hair that has been dyed can’t be lightened properly with more hair dye. Bleach is entirely necessary for lightening dyed hair in this case and you will see next to no change if you attempt to use a dye. - Source: Internet
  • In future for the roots if these continue to end up too light when using a dye or bleach to lighten your hair, you may want to consider applying to your lengths first, leaving about 1.5 - 2 cm at the roots. Once it has been developing for 15 minutes you can apply the rest of the dye to the root area. - Source: Internet
  • Here, we want you to focus on the right combination of color and texture. All in all, these two go hand in hand on your way to creating a game-changing look. To be more exact, we just want to show you how nicely dark blonde goes with layers. As you know, layers lighten up the texture, giving it a defined lively look. Well, turns out this shade of blonde is the best finishing touch to layered haircuts. - Source: Internet
  • It will last longer, too, but not forever, so it’s not permanent in that sense. It lasts until it grows out, essentially. It won’t fade after washing, but you may need to retouch your roots after 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows. Very dark hair dye, even if it is permanent, is prone to fade when exposed to environmental ‘aggressors’, so bear that in mind if you go on holiday as sea, sun and salt are definitely not your friends (nor are chlorinated swimming pools). - Source: Internet

  • Your hair texture can also affect how the color holds and what shade you can expect to walk home with. “Curly hair tends to be on the drier side, which can cause the color to oxidize faster, while straight or thicker hair can absorb and hold more color,” says L.A. colorist and Redken ambassador Cassondra Kaeding. So if your hair is curly or dry, you can expect extra time at the salon to make the color hold, as well as more-frequent return trips for touch-ups. - Source: Internet
  • If you’ve dyed your hair in the past, or if your hair is black, however, you will need to pre-lighten it with bleach. In this case, the bleach preparation needed is quite mild and the color is fairly easy to reach. This kind of lightening causes minimal damage, but you should still only use bleach on hair that is in good condition. - Source: Internet
  • Sandy blonde shades are full of joyful summer vibes and vibrancy of the hottest season. But how about you to show this color from a totally new perspective? Now, meet its faded version: it looks natural, effortless, and, most importantly, unique. Because it’s already pretty light, it’s easy for a hair stylist to create a new blonde shade because she won’t have to lighten the hair too much. And in some cases, she may not have to lighten the hair color at all; rather, it will be possible to simply alter the tone. • Hair color ideas may become an endless list of perplexing choices. Dark blonde, for example, has never been out. This ashy shade is elegant both in short hairdos and the long ones. When it comes to long hair, you should remember that your mane is a real canvas to color experiments. On long lengths, everything appears in a new light, especially horizontal graduations like ombre or well-smudged vertical balayage. - Source: Internet
  • A medium or dark blonde should be closest. It can depend on how porous your hair ends up being after the colour removal though. If you don’t end up needing to bleach, this will be less of a problem. Easiest way to deal with it is to apply to a small section as a strand test first and if it is too strong and the colour changes too quickly, go a level or two lighter so that you have more control over the timing. Apply, leave until you like the colour, and then rinse. - Source: Internet

  • John Frieda is certainly not the worst brand you could have used, and it’s actually strange that it turned out so dark considering it is quite a light dye. This might indicate a porosity problem, which means your hair really soaks up any colour you put on it. If this is the case, you’ll see the dye you put on wash out very quickly because whilst porous hair soaks up colour, it doesn’t hold onto it very well afterwards. Bleaching can often cause hair that is porous to become even more porous for a while after it has been bleached. Because you bleached your hair twice, that could have increased the condition and really primed your hair to absorb the dye. - Source: Internet

  • Thank you so much for you response. My dilemma is this: I don’t trust the hairstylist to mix the dye correctly, so putting 25% light ash mixed in with a neutral shade makes me nervous. And because the production has pre-paid for the dyeing process, I do not know if the amount will cover for her to dye my hair copper blonde and then again light ash brown. So if I only get one shot to make my hair a normal color again, would you say my best bet is to dye it golden brown or copper brown? - Source: Internet

  • No guarantee this will produce a significantly longer-lasting result though. It’s strange that you’ve only had dyes last 2 weeks before fading right back to a warm blonde, which really should last longer. It’ll still fade no matter what when you dye lighter hair darker, especially if it’s the first application, but generally much less than this, and a retouch should darken it back up and the potential for fading is reduced significantly after that point. - Source: Internet

I’d recommend only going slightly lighter though. Like if your eyebrows are a dark brown colour, tint to medium brown at most. If you go too light it starts to look strange and more obvious; and you also have the problem of regrowth. - Source: Internet

  • The point of stressing this is that by understanding lightening and deposit as being separate, you can better understand how the dye works. The dye you use has a potential maximum lift possible determined by your individual hair type, and the developer strength used. With 30 vol, this is generally from 2 - 3 levels. Very slightly more in responsive hair, and less in resistant hair. Potentially negligible in heavily dyed hair. - Source: Internet

As you’ve noticed yourself, with the amount of confusion people have between the two shades, if someone is calling a picture of light brown hair ‘dark blonde’ and Google picks this up as dark blonde, that’s what you’ll see when you search for it, even if it may not be the case. Your best bet to see the actual difference between the two levels is to look at the difference between the two levels in the same brand if possible. - Source: Internet
  • You mainly want to keep the roots touched up as quickly as possible when it grows to reduce the red tone if this is where it’s predominately coming from. If you’re seeing it in your lengths as well though, this is because of the ash dye fading and a toner will work for this purpose. However, keep in mind that in hair with highlights and lowlights, the effect of a toner can be a little erratic. If you use a toner that is too pigmented, the ash will really grab to the highlights, whilst a toner at the right level for the highlights will have minimal effect on the base colour and lowlights. - Source: Internet
  • The green tinge can be brand dependent. A lot of brands produce blonde shades that contain too much blue pigment at the level they are used, or even contain blue-green pigment. Blue on top of yellow or gold creates the green tinge; or a blue-green tone can do this by itself. - Source: Internet

  • When you apply, process until the grey has darkened up and the tone has cooled down. You can actually watch this happen so that you can rinse it just as it gets to the exact shade you want because it will change from golden orange, to a coppery golden brown, to golden brown, then to softer gold before it reaches a natural tone. After that it will cool down further towards an ash shade. For results like the picture, you want to rinse it when you see an ash tone with just the slightest hint of golden tone peeking through. - Source: Internet
  • Hi I’ve always dyed my hair black/blonde and every time I’ve dyed my hair blonde it didn’t look good on me but id give anything to be able to pull off blonde hair. I would always have the caramel blonde or darker blonde. i never tried a light ash blonde and was wondering if i could pull it off. I have cool toned skin and my face gets red easily. - Source: Internet

  • If you go this route, it’d be best to use a semi-permanent 9A so that the highlights don’t turn a blue colour. Anything darker would likely be too strong on these areas and make your hair look odd rather than simply less warm. You can use cream dye, mousse, or gel depending on what your prefer for this, with the creams being applied like permanent dye and having a stronger effect, whilst the gels and mousses are generally applied after shampooing and give a more gentle tone. None of these products will cause damage and will wash out of the hair after a few shampoos if you accidentally over-tone it. - Source: Internet
  • Generally, the paler your complexion, the lighter you can go with hair colour before it starts to contrast too much. If there’s a big difference between how dark your hair and complexion is it can look strange, but it works fine sometimes. The most important thing to take into account is the tone of your skin because if you match that, you soften the look of the colour overall, even if there is some disparity with the darkness. - Source: Internet
  • Again, to reach the absolute balance of colors, it’s better to have dark blonde on your roots. So if you don’t have a darker base by default, you can ask your stylist to cover the roots with this blonde shade. You will love the way the darker version of neutral blonde transits to a warmer rose vibe, that’s for sure. - Source: Internet
  • Another tip is to base it off your natural colour since you’re already blonde. If your current colour suits you fine, you’ll generally still look good with anything 2 levels either way (2 levels darker or 2 levels lighter). Anything further than this and it’s more likely you won’t suit it as much. - Source: Internet
  • Shades of blonde hair color can be further defined by the depth of color present. This is called the level and tells you how dark the color is. It ranges from a level 6, which is a dark blonde, to a level 10, which is the lightest blonde. - Source: Internet

  • You might believe that to dye blonde hair brown, all you need to do is apply a brown hair dye and wait for it to develop. It’s a little more complicated than that though because darker dyes won’t work as intended on light hair. Depending on how light your hair is and what shade of blonde hair you have, you could end up with your hair turning green or another unexpected color if you simply put a darker shade on top of it. - Source: Internet

  • Alternatively, you could use a natural light brown with 25 percent light ash brown mixed in. Although the natural is a neutral shade, the lack of warmth in your hair will lead to a more ashy neutral. • The natural porosity of your hair will also determine how easily your hair grabs on to pigment and how well it will hold it through styling and washing. Unbleached hair is usually less porous than bleached hair, but porosity can’t really be determined visually. Instead, try placing a strand of your hair in a cup of water. If it floats for a while before sinking down, your hair is not very porous, meaning it will be slower to absorb pigment and may not hold color as well. If it sinks pretty quickly, your hair is more porous, so it will probably hold color better and may absorb it more quickly too! - Source: Internet
  • Whether your current blonde is artificial or au naturel, you should be taking extra care to moisturize your hair prior to dyeing it a darker shade. A protein-rich, hydrating conditioner preps it for absorbing color molecules during the dye process, says Genna Still, master colorist at Spoke & Weal Salon. “Color bonds to protein, so having that protein in your hair before dyeing it is really important.” Equalizing solutions, like Aveda’s BB Damage Remedy, also reinforce your hair’s porosity before sitting down for new color. - Source: Internet
  • Similar to Purple Rain, Ritual is a dark, warm tone that plays nicely with natural brown hues. On a darker base, it will give you a dark, subtle maroon or burgundy hue in the light, and may give brown hair a stronger reddish hue overall even in regular lighting. On natural blonde hair, Ritual will take pretty well and will often fade in a more silvery range leaving you with a trendy ash blonde over time! - Source: Internet
  • Lastly, whilst the Igora demi can definitely be used, it isn’t optimal. For the colour you want, 6A is going to get you to it more reliably. You can use a 5A in this situation, but do realise that the colour will change much quicker because of the more concentrated pigment, and you will need to rinse it sooner. If you’re working with porous hair you may even want to go with something lighter than the 6A, which again, is hard with Igora’s demi permanent dyes because there’s a gap between 5-1 and 9,5-1. - Source: Internet
  • You should also be using a shade that is slightly cooler than your desired result. The reason for this is that when you lighten your hair, the warm base color underneath is revealed. If you simply use the exact color you want, it will end up warmer than your desired shade. - Source: Internet

  • Ideally, if you want to try a cool blonde shade, you’ll get the best results using what works for your hair. If you’re seeing a lot of gold during lightening, you want to use something that is primarily violet based as violet neutralises yellow. For slight copper tones, use a dye that is violet-blue. The heavier blue-based ash blonde dyes are better used on very orange hair, and anything with green will only be beneficial when correcting red dye or dealing with a lot of red tone. - Source: Internet

  • Should be better to use the 8.34 followed by the 6.13 because you want it to be ash brown. Either should work though based on what I can see about those dye products, just that the use of the 7 is going to show more warmth through to the final colour unless you cancelled it out with a heavier ash shade, whereas going on level lighter for the filler shade should avoid this. - Source: Internet
  • As for matching your base, that depends a lot on how chunky/numerous the highlights are. Larger sections look more prominent whereas more spread out thinner highlights appear as if the affect the whole colour of your hair more. The latter will blend because changing their colour changes the overall look of colour in the hair, while the former example, toning it just a little to look beige blonde rather than ash should be fine, but probably avoid going too warm. - Source: Internet

Determining the best color is likely related to how much maintenance, both at home and in follow-up appointments, you’ll want to do. “If you’re okay with maintenance but definitely want a darker look, you have free range for a warm tone, an ash tone, or a cool tone,” Still says. “But if you want to have the least maintenance possible, it’s best to play on the natural tones you already have in your hair.” - Source: Internet

Think of it like blonde shades, your hair can look silver for example as if there’s no yellow in there but in reality there is yellow and it looks silvery because of violet/blue pigment added to the hair that counteracts the appearance of the yellow. - Source: Internet

You can avoid these issues with the other filling technique. - Source: Internet
  • If your hair is already lighter, to begin with, instead of a darker shade than light brown, light brown hair color must be pursued slightly differently. Blonde hair—whether natural or dyed—lacks significant amounts of copper tone, which is the base tone for light brown hair color. Without this copper tone, your hair lacks the depth required to be dyed with a darker color. - Source: Internet

  • Using ash itself should be perfectly fine because the colour you want is closest to a light natural brown, with a slight gold tinge. If you apply a lighter ash, such as a 6A and allow this to process until the colour is near neutral, this will work fine. Alternatively, you can use 5A mixed with 5G to not only neutralise the copper tone, but also add extra gold tone at the same time. As your desired shade is closer to neutral though, this option is less optimal. - Source: Internet

  • It can also reduce curls because bleach alters the natural texture of your hair. This means that your curls can become softer, but it can also lead to more frizz if damage occurs. Ultimately, you need to take your hair’s current condition into account before you decide to lighten it, and it would be best to proceed only if you don’t have a lot of damage. It’ll also lighten less quickly if you’ve dyed it previously with brown or black shades because artificial colour doesn’t lift as effectively as natural pigment, so that’s something else to consider if you’ve applied any dyes in the past. - Source: Internet

  • One of the most important factors in how well your dye takes to your hair is the development time you allow it. Always use the maximum development time of the product you’ve chosen. - Source: Internet
  • One last thing though, if you like the way your colour looks after dyeing and it’s mainly just after fading that the orange tone bothers you, De Lorenzo Silver shampoo is a good way to keep it toned and cooler for longer. This is a blue-violet shampoo so it will correct orange and gold tones. The presence of the violet tone means that even though it does contain a strong blue tone, it’s not going to cause a green tinge because the yellow in your hair is neutralised and can’t mix with any blue to produce green. - Source: Internet

  • With that said, if you did want to just fill with gold, it’s not a big deal if you use a natural shade brown as the brown dye after, eg light natural brown or medium natural brown as these have balanced tone including the warmth needed to properly darken your hair. It’s less effective by itself in very light hair like platinum which is why you’d want to fill first though. There’s the potential for one of the 3 primary colours meant to be balanced in the dye to show too prominently. - Source: Internet
    1. It’s flattering to skin tone and eye color. Ashy blonde or brown hair usually looks best if a complexion is cool and eyes are blue or cool green. - Source: Internet
  • If it’s mainly just balayage, this will soften the colour a lot, so the change is going to have less of an effect on the way your skin look. As for your eyebrows, this is more up to personal choice. You may find the thinner appearance complements your lighter hair colour and you like it like that. Otherwise, it’s fine to fill them in and it shouldn’t look strange. Plenty of people have hair as light as platinum but keep their natural eyebrow colour and it still looks good. - Source: Internet
  • As they say, you live and you learn. It wasn’t until my hair was stripped of its natural pigments that I knew I wasn’t destined to be blonde; likewise, it wasn’t until my head was sectioned into dye-painted, foil-wrapped sections that I sensed that releasing my hair from its bleach prison would be more complicated than I imagined. Here’s what I probably should have known before I bleached my hair to begin with—and what anyone who’s going from blonde to brunette should keep in mind before making the switch. - Source: Internet
  • To fix it, either add a little of a copper dye into a beige blonde dye, or a copper concentrate if available and that will take out the green tone. Alternatively, you can mix a very tiny amount of a semi-permanent orange dye into some conditioner and apply that for a few minutes as a conditioning toner whenever you wash your hair to keep it toned. Eventually the blue pigment would wash out as the dye fades since cool tones like blue are way less durable than the warm tones in your hair. You won’t need to keep toning it forever. - Source: Internet
  • For your other question, it depends on how that dye is ‘calibrated’ and how porous your hair is. As your hair is bleached it is likely at least somewhat porous so it will absorb more dye and turn out darker than expected so it’s likely a 6 will be closer to a 5 on your hair. It’s also likely it’ll fade a lot over time after using it though, so it’s a double-edged sword really and the choice is yours whether you want to use a 5 and put up with it being closer to a medium brown until it fades, or use a 6 and have it come out close to the depth you want, but then fade to lighter than you want over time. - Source: Internet

  • Blonde hair shades: numbers & colour chart At L’Oréal Professionnel, we have a simple international colour numbering system that, once explained, will allow you to perfectly understand the colour behind the numbers. There are just three numbers to understand when it comes to L’Oréal Professionnel blonde hair shades. The first number, to the left of the full stop, is your base colour. Base colours start at 1, for deepest black, and finish at 10, lightest blonde. So if we’re going for an ash blonde colour, for example, we’d probably start with a 6 (dark blonde) or 7 (blonde). - Source: Internet

  • Of course, the above means you need to use 2 different dyes and since you’re on a budget, if it’s more affordable, just dye it all with light natural brown. I’d avoid that option if at all possible though since the unevenness you have now will probably follow through into the new result. It’d be lessened but there’d be some difference in depth and tone that you can see. - Source: Internet

  • It’s likely your hair is quite porous after transitioning from a dark colour to a very light colour. When hair is porous, dyes tend to absorb more readily, but the hair doesn’t hold onto them quite as well. There’s no definite fix because it’s just the way lightened hair acts due to damage of the cuticles and inner structure, but protein treatments can help repair the structure and allow it to hold colour for longer sometimes. - Source: Internet
  • On the subject of dark blonde vs light brown, they can look very similar because all brands aren’t going to be the same. Some light brown shades are lighter than those in different brands, and vice versa for dark blonde shades. If it makes it easier, think of it based on the colour that is underneath. If you’re bleaching your hair, it’s bright orange at level 5 for a light brown, but it’s a golden orange colour at level 6 for a dark blonde. - Source: Internet

  • If you find that you look great with your natural hair colour, chances are you have a warmer skin tone and this will work best with beige or golden highlights. Aim for something no more than 1 - 2 levels lighter than your base colour and apply either thin delicate layers, or in a direction to mimic the way the sun hits your hair for the most natural look. The lighter and heavier you go with the highlighting, the less natural and more obvious the effect becomes. - Source: Internet
    1. Alternatively, use half a natural shade mixed with ash. The natural will add depth in to darken the grey hair properly, whilst the ash still tones the warmth out. - Source: Internet
  • Although highlights and lowlights drastically differ from one another, when it comes to the dark shade of blonde, they have a common context. On dark brown hair, deep blonde highlights can accentuate the profound shade harmonically, without looking too contrastive. As for lowlights, this blonde hue will be a stunning pick for lowlights on light blonde hair, as it will create a dimensional, yet natural and well-defined color. - Source: Internet
  • Of course, you can’t ever go wrong choosing a dark shade of blonde. The reason lies in its fantastic versatility. You can add dark blonde as a tint over your light blonde mane to diversify your look or go for an all-over color to view your complexion from a new perspective. - Source: Internet

  • hi there I have just put some platinum blonde randomly into my hair i already had a light ash blonde which I thought looked a bit lifeless and dull so hence the platinum blonde which I love as it really brightens my skin but if I put it right to the roots it would wash me out. It turned orange where the ash blonde was so I put a Natural Light Ash Blonde 9.1 over the orange which made it look very flat even though I left the ends the brighter blonde I have blue/green eyes my natural hair colour is now white but used to be brunette. I think I am a cool tone but the problem is if its too cool it makes me look ill and if its too warm my skin looks a weird colour. Am I a neutral? Help! - Source: Internet
  • If your blonde hair is anywhere between a level 6–8, you will need to add copper back in. Do this by either using a dark copper blonde dye or copper protein filler before you use a light brown shade or by adding a little of a copper light brown shade to your chosen light brown color. This will prevent ash brown from turning green and will keep your other colors looking the way they should. - Source: Internet
  • The main exception to this rule is with mahogany and burgundy hair colors. These shades contain red and violet tones to give more of a purple color. In this case, the yellow tones present in your blonde hair can counteract the violet tones in these colors, leading to shades that are redder or pinker than they should be. If this is a problem for you, add a violet intensifier to your mahogany or burgundy shades to boost the purple color. - Source: Internet
  • These cool tones are important even in a golden blonde shade. Without them, your blonde hair would simply be an unnatural-looking fluorescent yellow color because of the underlying base pigment. It is the combination of warm and cool tones that creates a natural, beautiful color in your hair so you can never neglect the need for some amount of both. - Source: Internet

  • Alternatively, a toning shampoo like De Lorenzo Silver can be very effective. As this shampoo has a lot of blue pigment, it’s optimal for toning blonde hair that looks more reddish, whilst the violet shampoos are for yellow / gold tones. It is a strong product though, so you may have to dilute it down with a white shampoo depending on how it affects your hair to prevent over-toning. If it does over-tone, it will mostly wash out of the hair after 1 - 2 shampoos with a regular non-coloured shampoo. - Source: Internet
